Clip-in Remy hair extensions are a great way to add length and volume and although many options are nothing but cheap, you can find quality sets of virgin Indian hair that look natural and don’t break the bank!
But, how do you apply them and what should you pay attention to when trying to score quality clip-in hair extensions?
First and foremost, always use real virgin hair for a number of reasons that are explained in this blog post “Key Benefits of Indian Hair Extensions“.
When selecting the color of your extensions, always hold up your ends to your roots to see how these two match. Remember that your own ends don’t match your own roots so don’t bother too much if the extensions are not a perfect match. They will blend. In fact, better go for a slightly darker hue than your natural hair since you will be wearing your extensions at the bottom layers, where your hair is darker. Once you are done with all that, it’s application time!
1. Curl your natural hair with a curling iron (½”) to make loose waves. At this point, you don’t want them to be perfectly curled rather than just add some volume.
2. Before you curl your extensions, brush them out. To do so without damaging them, hold the Remy hair tightly from the clip end and curl small strands with the iron, just like you did with your own hair. A handy way to do this is by snapping the extension on the spot on your head that you find it easier to curl your hair. Then, pop the extension off.
3. Lay the curled extensions on a flat surface so that they cool without losing their shape. If you want tighter curls, spraying a layer of hairspray on them will give you what you want.
4. Most packs come with 5-7 extensions (3-5 with two clips, a wide one with 4 clips and a smaller one with 3 clips). Make a horizontal part from mid-ear to the opposite mid-ear, take the 3-clip panel and clip it there, always with the clip teeth facing inwards. Start with the left or right clip behind the ear and then move over to the middle one and the other ear (don’t forget to clip the rest of your hair up so they don’t get in the way while you are trying to clip the extensions).
5. Take the 4-clip panel and clip it on your hair, right above each ear, following the same procedure like you did with the 3-clip panel. Make sure the panel is centered along your head.
6. The smaller extensions are to be applied to the back and on every side of your head.
7. Use a brush to gently blend with your natural hair (brush out the ends). You may need to re-curl some strands after all extensions are clipped in. Can you tell your real hair from the extensions? Hopefully not!
And. don’t forget to take good care of your locks and use the right products!
