Wavy hair extensions are versatile and perfect for people who don’t want very curly hair that may be difficult to manage or straight hair which can be boring. Unlike truly curly hair, wavy extensions do not have to be wetted daily to look their best. Tying the hair into a loose low ponytail overnight will usually be enough to preserver the curl pattern ready to wear again the following morning.
Wavy hair extensions are also easier to blend with than curly to kinky curly textures if your hair is straight which makes it an ideal choice for those with relaxed hair. If your hair is natural, you can also blend with wavy extensions as long as you flat iron your leave out first.
Your blending technique for wavy hair will depend largely on the length of your leave out hair. Shorter hair (2-3 inches) and you can just flat iron the the leave out and brush it into the extension hair to cover the tracks. No further blending is required. Longer lengths will require a bit more work than do shorter lengths. Here are two blending techniques to choose from.
Blending Technique 1:
1. Once the hair is installed, tie it into a ponytail out of the way while you work on your leave out hair.
2. Apply heat protectant over your leave out and comb to evenly distribute. Flat iron the hair smooth.
3. Heat up a large hair waving iron.
4. Grab a section of your leave out hair and apply the waving iron a couple of inches from the root for a few seconds until the wave has set. Move the waving iron down the length of the hair to create more waves in the same manner until you get to the ends.
5. Repeat this for the remainder of the leave out hair. You can even incorporate some of the extensions with your leave out hair while using the waving iron to help you blend better.
Note: The downside to this technique is that the waves would have to be re-done daily. The curls from a waving iron do not keep well overnight. This is both time consuming and not very healthy for your hair in the long run so save this technique for special occasions.
Blending Technique 2:
1. Apply heat protectant over your leave out hair and the uppermost section of your installed weave (1 or two tracks near your leave out). Comb or brush to evenly distribute.
2. Flat iron straight the section of your weave to match the length of your hair. For instance if your leave out hair is 7 inches long, you would flat iron the weave from the root 7 inches down. This way when you comb your hair over the weave to cover the tracks, the two textures will blend beautifully. You will be left with an install that looks like it is straight at the roots then gets wavy further down the hair.
This technique is much healthier for hair as you only have to flat iron your hair straight once a week after washing. The style can be maintained easily by tying the hair into a loose low ponytail and covering with a satin scarf/bonnet overnight.
