I’m not going to go into a long speech about how great curly hair is but, it is! There is something about warm weather that frees the spirit and makes us seek fun and excitement. From natural big curls to fun and free flowing kinky curls, they all speak of summer and the beach.
The gene for curly locks is dominant and the gene for straight hair is recessive so with most of us already having some sort of curl pattern (even if it’s just wavy), the humidity in the air during the summer months makes it the perfect time to forget about your hair straightener and get better acquainted with your curls.
If you are looking for a summer protective style, you can’t go wrong with kinky curly or deep wavy hair extensions. From that tousled and curly look to wild and kinky you can’t go wrong with curly hair extensions.
Tousled windswept curls
Install deep wavy extensions 14 inches at the back for length and 12 inches at the top to provide a natural layering effect. You can also cut more precise layers at the top just a couple of inches longer than your leave out hair for more seamless blending. No need to leave a horseshoe section out. Just leave a half inch section around the hairline to cover the tracks. Braid or twist the leave out hair with very little styling mousse.
Once the hair is installed, wet thoroughly and comb with a wide tooth comb to break up the curls a bit. Dry with a diffuser blow dryer turning your head upside down every now and again. You want to get plenty of volume without too much frizz so avoid touching the extensions as they dry.
Undo your braided leave out hair and push back to blend with the extensions hair. Lovely tousled hair for long walks on the beach!
Wild and wonderful kinky curly
For the wild at heart, kinky curly extensions are great and low maintenance especially if you go for a full weave instead of a partial. Start with good quality kinky curly extensions and sew in 10 inches of hair all round.
You may want to go for 2 1/2 packs of hair for plenty of volume especially at the crown. Once you have sewn in all the hair, you will need to cut them at the back, sides and your bang to get the shape just right. If you are not confindent with scissors, get a stylist to handle the cut for you. Remember, having less hair at the nape means less tangling so this weave will be super easy to look after.
Wet the hair thoroughly. Now you are going to do something counter intuitive. Usually to get defined curls you should never touch the curls as they dry but for this look you actually want to create a bit of frizz so take out your wide tooth comb and comb through the hair a bit while it is wet.
Dry using a diffuser attachment separating curls that look too defined with your fingers as you go. Try drying your extensions upside down for maximum volume effect. Beautiful curly and very natural looking!
