Should hair extensions be banned from schools? This question opens up a lot of other questions that often turn into a debate. There are usually two sides to this debate: the “conservative” side, represented by parents and the school as an institution, and the “liberal” side, represented by students and generally liberal people.
From a student’s point of view, any kind of ban is unacceptable. Parents, on the other hand, usually have a view about hair extensions that is different from the view of their children. Generally, they think that hair extensions are dangerous to wear at school for young girls because of the potential for accidents caused by the long tresses.
Then there is the beauty aspect. Many parents believe that not only is it adding too much emphasis on appearance, but the costs associated with it can also become a concern. This is why some parents believe that they should be banned. For young girls on the other hand, they simply want to express themselves and extensions they feel is one way to do it.
This disagreement of course is a common occurrence, since kids and parents often seem to disagree on many levels. But let’s look at each sides view point to understand this stance on whether or not hair extensions should be banned.
The “Liberal” Point of View
Youngsters usually like to experiment with their looks, especially as teenagers. They want to look stylish and trendy all the time. Parents normally do not like their kids to adopt fashion trends at an early age. They want them to concentrate on their studies.
For many young girls, they think that hair extensions allow them to create different hairstyles that can make them look beautiful. They think their parents should approve because getting hair extensions is a safer alternative compared to the damage brought on by straightening, curling, and dyeing their hair.
As you know these actions can wreck havoc on healthy hair which can lead to more hair issues with time. And for those who adopt this more liberal view, they too would also agree. Hair extensions should not be banned in schools, as they are a relatively safe option for young girls wanting to look stylish without having to deal with daily hair maintenance.
The “Conservative” Point of View
Young girls like to express themselves by wearing fashionable clothes, makeup, jewelry and different hairstyles. Such things distract them from their studies and other activities that are actually beneficial for them – or so these “conservatives” believe.
Hair extensions are dangerous in the sense that they can damage the hair and scalp, and they also require additional care as compared to natural hair. Some believe that young girls are not responsible enough, and they might not be able to take good care of their hair extensions, which may damage and cause even their natural hair to become damaged or even fall out!
Although every young person is different, this is the argument of those who are on this side of the debate. So, if we look at the conservative point of view, hair extensions should be banned for school girls because of these concerns mentioned above.
In the end, there will always be two sides of the debate. But who is on which side, it all depends. To any degree, it’s still an issue that continues to be discussed. Which point of view would you chose? “Liberal” or “conservative” or do you think that the answer is somewhere in between?
