I adore hairstyles that incorporate some sort of braid into them. They look young flirty and fun and are so simple to do! Add to that some big volunimous curls and you have a summer style that will turn heads! This style is great for school, a party or just for hanging out with your friends. To recreate it all you need is a big barrel curling iron, a hair clip, a hair elastic band and bit of imagination!
You may want to install extensions to get some extra length, here’s how to recreate the style:
Hair needed: You will need pretty long hair extensions for this style so I suggest 1 pack of 18 inch and 1 pack of 20 inch Virgin Straight Indian hair. Otherwise get a set of clip in extensions.
1. For a sew in weave: Start with a flat base of cornrows going straight back. You will need to leave out a horseshoe section for a side part and a 1/2 inch on the hairline.
Sew in the 20 inch extensions starting at the nape and apply them evenly. Finish off with the 16 inch extensions at the top. If you buy extensions with hand tied wefts, it will allow you to add all the hair without the weave appearing bulky! When you have installed the hair, apply some heat protectant to your leave out and flat iron smooth to match the extensions.
2. For clip in extensions: Make sure that your own hair is already straightened and clip in the wefts close to your scalp starting at the nape of your neck. Install the rest of the tracks in this manner finishing with the ones on the sides of your head. Do not place the clip in’s too close to your part or your hairline because they will show!
3. Now apply heat protectant over all extensions too and brush through to evenly distribute.
4. Heat up a large barrel curling iron and part a section of hair at the nape. Clip the remaining hair away so it doensn’t get in the way as you are curling.
5. Curl your hair in large sections. Don’t allow the curls to drop while they are still hot. Either hold each curl in your hand until it cools down or pin it to the scalp using a bobby pin. This makes the curl last longer. Another alternative is to use a styling spritz on the hair before curling. The only downside of this is that it will leave the hair feeling coated and you will have to wash it more often.
6. Braid your bang starting at the arch of your eyebrow remembering to incorporate some of the extension hair with your own hair! Stop the braid just short of the arch of the other eyebrow and secure with an elastic band.
7. You may want to re-curl the ponytail that results front the braid so that it can blend in with the rest of the hair.
This video shows the style being done on somebody with naturally long hair.
The easiest way to save this style would be to leave the braid untouched and using flexi rods, roll the hair in large sections. Don’t use too may flexi rods because it will make it uncomfortable for you to sleep! Cover with a satin bonnet for the night.
In the morning, release the flexi rods. You will find that curls with flexi rods will be more defined than using a barrel iron. Use your fingers to style the hair, a brush will make the curls fall into waves (waves still look pretty though).
