Celeb Style – Jessica Alba Curly Bob

Jessica Alba Short Curly BobAs much fun as long hair extensions are, sometimes there is nothing like a short cut to boost your confidence levels and update your style. Not everyone however is brave enough to allow a stylist to start snipping at their locks, particularly black women for whom every inch is hard earned! With hair extensions though, you can experiment with shorter styles without leaving your length on the salon floor.

Here, Jessica Alba looks stunning with this curly bob. The curls soften what would be a severe short cut and the smoother bang to the side frames her face beautifully. This style is a lovely every day hairdo that would be great for work and can ever be dressed up for evenings or weekends out.

If your own hair is short or you have shorter lengths at the front for your bangs you will be able to get away with leaving hair out to cover the wefts for this style, otherwise you will have to do a full weave. Here’s how to get this style:

Hair needed: 2 packs of 10 inch virgin Indian hair and a closure piece in the color of your choice. Leave out the closure piece if you opt for a partial weave.

  1. Braid your hair in a flat base and install your extensions starting from the back and working your way to the front.
  2. Install your closure piece if you are using one.
  3. Flat iron your leave out hair to match the texture of the hair extensions and brush the hair in place to cover the wefts.
  4. Separating your hair into sections, cut the extensions beginning at the back. Since this look is very short (neck length) start out by making pretty bold blunt cuts with hair shears but leaving the hair a bit longer than it’s final length.
  5. Put aside the shears and using a razor comb complete the cut at the back giving the look a choppy finish.
  6. Repeat this step with the other sections of hair until a choppy bob has taken shape.
  7. To give the style volume, cut in a couple of layers being careful not to cut your own leave out hair!
  8. To style your hair, all you need is good old fashioned rollers. Set your hair on medium to large rollers. You can apply a bit of volumizing styling mousse to the strands before wrapping around the rollers.
  9. Mist your hair with a bit of water and heat protectant and sit under a dryer for 20-30 minutes to set the curls.
  10. If you use sponge rollers, you can skip the step above and jut sleep with the rollers! Alternatively for quick curls, use heated rollers to set the hair.
  11. Remove the rollers, careful keep the volume of the curls. Fluff and separate to allow the hair to fall into place. Once you have styled the hair to your liking, use hairspray to hold the curls.
The curls will have fallen by the following day but the hair will still have a bit of volume so you can wear the style as it is. This is a style that is great for those wanting a hair weave for protective styling without the hassle of dealing with long hair extensions.
