Unfortunately not all of us have the foresight to get our styling started with flexi rods the night before for heat free curls. So for those days when you need to be somewhere in an hour looking fabulous, hot or heated rollers can be very useful.
You can purchase heated rollers from beauty supply stores or online. The rollers come in different sizes. The small ones create small somewhat tight curls and bigger ones create looser waves. You can mix and match the sizes to create a unique look, try large waves at the bottom with smaller tighter curls at the top for a half up half down look.
Here is how to prepare and curl your hair for a quick hairstyle in the morning. Make sure you turn on the hot rollers first as some models take up to 15 minutes to reach the correct curling temperature so bear this in mind before purchasing!
1. Some people believe that curls hold better on dirty hair but I don’t believe that to be true. Curls hold just as beautifully on clean hair so start as always with freshly washed and conditioned hair extensions. Heated rollers can only be used on completely dry hair so blow dry your hair straight before beginning. If you are wearing sew in hair extensions, flat iron the leave out hair to blend in with the extensions before using the rollers.
2. It is easiest to prepare your hair by knowing how many curlers you have to avoid running out of rollers before all your hair is curled. For this style you will want to use the large and medium curlers so you will need 8-12 rollers in total.
3. Apply heat protectant over your hair and brush through to evenly distribute and to get rid of any tangles.
4. Divide your hair into 3 sections if you are using 12 rollers and divide into 4 sections for 8 rollers. Divide each section into the appropriate number for the rollers that you are going be applying. So for 8 rollers you will need to divide each of your 4 sections into two and apply a roller to each section of hair.
5. Roll the hair in the direction that you want the curl to fall. Use the big rollers at the back of your head and save the medium ones for the top and front section because this where curls are most visible.
6. Secure each curl with the holding clip that the rollers come with making sure that each roller is rolled firmly against your scalp. This ensures that you get nice even curls throughout.
7. Leave the rollers in your hair for the recommended period of time (usually 15 minutes) while you prepare yourself for your day. Put on your make up or have breakfast. You don’t want to take the rollers out to early before the curls have had a chance to set.
8. Once the alloted time has gone by, carefully unwind each roller to release the gorgeous curl. The rollers should still be slightly warm.
9. Style your hair by separating the curls with your fingers for a more voluminous look.
Heated rollers are great for changing the look of your straight hair extensions. They create curls that will keep all day while giving you the option to wear your extensions straight the following day.
