How To Use Weaves To Play With Color Without The Commitment

October 20, 2013

Mary J Blige blonde weaveFor years, women have been coloring their hair, thus changing their appearance with the touch of a color blend.  However, in recent years, the use of hair extensions (weaves) to enhance the natural beauty and color of hair has been catching on like wild fire.  Hair weaves have gained noriety among women of color.

Throughout history, movie stars and celebrities wore weaves and glamorous hair pieces for Las Vegas show stoppers.  In modern times, hair weaves have become even more desirable. Other than the obvious benefits of instant length, hair coloring explains why they are so popular.   Hair weave is an easy and virtual no fuss way to change your appearance.

Before you consider adding a weave to your natural tresses, it would be vital to examine the various colors you can add.  Placing weave in for color styles is just as important as placing weave in for other reasons.  We all know that taking care of your locks underneath the weaved in hair, requires you take precautions to minimize the risks of damaging your natural hair and scalp. But, another important reason to get a colored weave is that you have  none of the damaging chemicals and dyes on your own hair.

Choosing a color:

Before you get a weave, it is important to know that the color of hair you add to your own. Your skin tone features, and the look you want to display will seriously affect how attractive your extensions look. You would want to carefully select the a reasonable color before getting the weave in.  Extensions and weaves come in both synthetic and natural hair, and various hues to choose from, so it would be in your best interests to select you’re the color choice that will fit your lifestyle & complexion.  Your stylist can help you choose.

As noted, there are many women out there that would  like to add some fire  to their hairstyle with a professional hair coloring service, but simply don’t want the chemical in their own hair.  This situation is easy to remedy with the weave in color option.   Two most popular color services are overall color sewn in weave and  clip in extensions. We see the celebrities doing it all the time.  Beyonce, Janet Jackson, and Mary J. Blige are a few singers who wear them…and wear them well!

Three notable ways of playing with color without committing to a permanent change are:

  • Clip ins are also a great way to add a dash of color without any permanent change to your own tresses. Use colored clip in extensions to add highlights or low lights, nobody will ever know that isn’t not your own hair!
  • Another way of coloring without commitment is to  highlight only your leave out hair to blend in with a colored weave. It’s less of a commitment than coloring all your hair but you get the look of a full head of red or copper or blonde or whatever.
  • Get a full weave. You can change your style dramatically overnight while your own hair remains virtually untouched!

Depending on what you are looking for, these are great options for livening up your locks and adding interest to your style.  So, how do you decide if a color weave or clip on extensions are good for you?

  • If you have a little bit of gray that you would like to hide.
  • If you can’t commit to getting your roots touched up often
  • If you look great in cool colors but do not want to add a chemical to your hair
  • If you are in need of a style boost and believe a new color will do the trick.
  • If you’re afraid of a big change and want a change that will have no long term consequences
  • You are trying to hide a bad dye job (smile)

If you do choose to jazz up your look with a color weave or clip in extensions, then it would be wise to speak to your color stylist for some suggestions before attempting to color the hair yourself at home. Alternatively you can get pre-colored indian hair extensions.  A weave in color can look just as beautiful and natural as color on your own tresses.
