How To Wear Hair Extensions on a Budget

How To Wear Hair Extensions on a Budget

February 22, 2015

In today’s economy saving money is a top priority but who wants to sacrifice beauty for the sake of saving a few dollars? Here are a few ways you can have your cake and eat it too by lowering the cost of your hair extensions with none of the sacrifice.

Make an investment that lasts – buy human hair extensions preferably virgin Indian human hair. Why? It lasts longer, it looks natural and great and you have the option to use and reuse the hair. While synthetic hair is cheaper you run the risk of purchasing hair several times in a few months which may prove to be more expensive over just making the investment in human hair the first time round.

Install smart– Find ways to install your extensions that will allow you to wear the hair over and over again. Make your own wig with your preferred hair that can be worn over and over again with little maintenance. There are many DIY tutorials on making wigs on YouTube where you can learn to make your most perfect unit. Making the unit might be a little time consuming but if you can wear the hair over and over again, it will be worth it.

Be Salon Smart– the easier it is to install the hair the less it will cost you for installation hence you save money with the stylist. The stylist will determine how much to charge you based on how long you will be in the chair. Time is money for both of you and the idea is to reduce the amount of time the stylist will spend installing your hair. A few time conserving practices that are very important include the following:

– Make an appointment and arrive on time

– Keep prep time down to a minimum by doing some of it yourself prior to arrival- ensure that your hair is clean and fully detangled before going to the salon

– Bring your hair extensions with you to your salon visit

– If you are doing a sew-in weave, braid your hair before going so that the beautician will not have to do it.

– If the hair needs to be dyed, it helps to cut costs by dying the hair prior to your visit, your stylist will definitely charge extra for changing the color of the extensions.

Keep things simple- Choose simple styles that don’t require a lot of time especially when doing a sew-in for everyday wear.

DIY- Many women opt to install extensions themselves cutting the need for a stylist out of their budget completely. If you are ambitions and you think you can handle it, go for it! With practice self installation will be a breeze and can rival a professional install any day. If you would like to learn how to install extensions making an investment in beauty books or taking a class will save you money in the future and will allow you to customize your hair the way you like it.
