Brandy Norwood lace front wig 2

Brandy At The 2012 Billboard Music Awards

Brandy Norwood lace front wig
These lacefront wigs were not a great look!

Sorry to all the die-hard Brandy fans out there but I for one have never thought of Brandy as a trendsetter or stylenista, either hair or fashion.  I love her musically, but her hair was always eh for me.  Sure Brandy was adorable with box braids in the 90s and I did think the micros during the early 2000s worked well for her.  But then she moved on to wigs and became a tragic victim of the dinosaur hairline lace front wigs.

Oh. my. goodness.  How many times I wanted to be able to reach out and refer her (but mainly her hairstylist for that matter) to a few fabulous self-taught YouTube gurus! Brandy has always been a beautiful girl and she matured into a beautiful woman with a great figure.  And although I did notice she’d stepped up her wig game (death to her awful lacefronts!) within the last year, I still never saw her in a hairstyle that made me gasp with surprise and adoration.  Until now.

I actually fell asleep before the Billboard Music Awards came on but did look at all of the photos posted online.  I was casually clicking through the throng of celebs and critiquing their looks in my head when I saw her.  My finger just paused over the mouse as I stared.

Brandy looked positively phenomenal!  Her makeup, her dress and her boo, lol!!!  But babyyyyy, that hair stole the show for me!  Drop dead gorgeous.  A full head of kinky curls styled in a perfectly shaped afro.  Brandy killed it in that hair! In the words of the infamous Tamar Braxton she was snatched and beat to capacity honey!!!

Her look can be recreated with either a sew in weave or a wig. I would purchase either kinky curly or organic processed curly hair in 12 and 14 inches.  Notice that Brandy does not have a true part with any scalp showing, so this is a relatively easy look to copy.  Unlike traditional layered looks, the shorter length will be on the bottom and the 14 inch on the top.

Sew the hair in a circular pattern starting from the lower perimeter.  When you near the top, sew the tracks closer to “close” the weave eventually ending in a very tight circle.  The hair will be teased and fluffed so creating the perfect closure really is not necessary.  If you need to, trim the hair on an angle keeping the hair longer on the top to get the same shape as Brandy.

Once the hair has been sewn and shaped, separate with your fingers to create a semi-side part making sure not to make it too straight.  You shouldn’t see any scalp or wefts.  Wet the curls with water and use a light styling cream that won’t cause buildup on the hair.  Flip your head upside down to create volume as you scrunch the curls and allow the hair to dry.

If you are in a hurry, use a diffuser to dry the hair a bit.  If you notice that you need more volume and height, with a hair pick or wide tooth comb gently lift the roots by combing upward.  The key to pulling off a look this eye-catching is to rock it with confidence!
