Turn Damaged Hair to Sexy Locks: 5 FANTASTIC DIY Treatments

August 2, 2012

The environment, dyeing, heat, product build up and styling can damage your hair and Indian Remy hair extensions. A good way to make sure your hair is shiny and healthy – ready to impress even with the simplest hairdos – here are 5 homemade recipes that will deliver exactly what your hair needs, from intensive moisturizing to damage repair!

1. Banana, Egg & Avocado Mask (deeply moisturizing)

Thanks to its full of protein, biotin, and sulfur ingredients, this mask will strengthen your hair and reverse damage.

You’ll need:

1 banana (skinned and mashed)

1 avocado (skin and mashed)

1 egg (whisked)

Method:

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and apply to the hair AND scalp. Leave for 15 minutes (although the longer you leave, the better) and then rinse.

Tip: You may add some vinegar to cut the egg smell and give extra shine to your locks.

2. Olive Oil & Vinegar Mask (moisture to damaged hair)

This homemade mask is very effective and will give your damaged hair and virgin hair extensions the nourishment and help they need to regain their lost shine and great looks.

You’ll need:

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (it’s important to use high-quality oil)

1 tablespoon vinegar (high-quality here, too).

Method:

Blend the two ingredients and massage the scalp and hair with it. Cover your head with a towel, aluminum foil or shower cap and let it act for at least half an hour. Again, the longer you leave the mask, the more visible the results. Shampoo and condition as usual.

3. Coconut Oil & Honey Mask (for silky soft and dandruff-free hair)

This is particularly beneficial if you have dandruff or curly hair as it gives the hair the protein and moisture it needs to maintain its gorgeous, healthy looks.

You’ll need:

1 tablespoon coconut oil (preferably high-quality extra virgin coconut oil)

1 tablespoon honey (real, runny)

Method:

Put the coconut oil into a bowl and heat it until it’s runny (not too hot, though).

Add the honey and stir well to combine (you may need to re-heat).

We need the combined ingredients to be runny.

Work the mix carefully into the hair (from the tips up). You may want to put a towel around your shoulders so you don’t get the mixture dripping on your clothes.

Wrap the hair in aluminum foil, shower cap or towel and leave for at least half an hour.

Rinse and wash.

Super Tip: For extra shine and bounce, you can massage the roots with beer (lager for blonde and light brown hair and dark for brunettes). Leave for a few minutes and rinse. Repeat every other week. You may do the same with Apple Cider Vinegar!

4. Sour Cream & Yogurt Mask (nourishment to the hair and scalp)

This deeply moisturizing mask will give your hair and scalp the hydration needed, thanks to the enzymes and lactic acid it contains.

You’ll need:

½ cup sour cream

½ cup yogurt (preferably plain, natural or Greek)

Method:

Combine the ingredients and apply the mixture onto the hair. Spread so it goes from roots to ends.

Leave for about 30 minutes and rinse with warm water. Then rinse with cool water so the hair cuticles lock the nourishing ingredients of the mask inside them.

5. Rosemary Oil & Jojoba Oil (repair particularly damaged hair)

It’s not just your hair that gets burdened by heat and styling tools. Your precious Remy hair extensions also run the risk of becoming frizzy and lifeless without proper care. To make sure you will always have your voluminous and shiny locks looking great, this mask will help undo much of the damage done.

Just mix a tablespoon of rosemary oil with equal amounts of jojoba oil. For thicker or longer hair, you may need to double the quantity required. For even more eye-popping results, first heat the oil. It will help your hair and scalp to absorb the valuable components faster. Massage the mixture of oils into the hair and scalp and leave for, at least, 3 hours. Rinse with warm water.

Repeat 2-3 times a week, depending on the extent of the damage.
