The must-have products if you wear hair extensions!

July 29, 2010

If this is your first time wearing hair extensions, things could seem a bit confusing, especially when it comes to hair care. To save you from this awkward position, here is a quick list of the must-have products every Remy hair extensions wearer should have, even before the extension appointment!

1. The Appropriate Shampoo/Conditioner

It’s very important to use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner when wearing virgin Remy hair extensions because products that contain sulfate damage the hair cuticles and make your extensions last less than supposed. Just make sure you find the right type of shampoo and conditioner for your hair type and safer for your extensions.

2. A dry shampoo

A dry shampoo is perfect if you want to rejuvenate your hair between washes. It helps you remove product and oil buildup quite effortlessly and protects your extensions as they don’t need to be washed more than two times a week. As a result, your hair is clean every day and since most dry shampoo products come lightly scented, you will also feel them fresh from day to night! You simply spray it on your natural hair and extensions and style as you normally do!

3. A hair extension brush

When wearing your extensions, you need to make sure the beads, tape, and bonds are secure. Otherwise, the hair will slip or even break and you will end up with nasty-looking hair. A brush specifically designed to be used on hair extensions will give you exactly that without snagging. The secret is in the bristles. Poor bristles will make your hair snap and shred like crazy. A loop brush with nylon bristles on the other hand, will give your hair the respect it deserves!

4. A blow-dry primer

It is not advised to leave your tape, bead or bonds wet for long for various reasons. For that reason, invest in a blow-dry primer to protect the hair from heat. Depending on the product you choose, you may ensure protection of up to 425 degrees, although you should never use heat that high because it damages the hair and makes hair extensions dry. If this happens, here are some tips to restore the shine and flexibility of your dry extensions.

5. A hair mask

A hair mask or deep conditioner is another must-have product if you have hair extensions. Once a week, apply the mask or deep conditioner to the ends of the hair to prevent them from splitting and keep them hair hydrated. Needless to say, you don’t apply the product of choice on the roots; only from the mid-shaft down to avoid slippage.

6. Silk bonnet or pillowcase

When sleeping, the hair could become a matted mess. This is because the cotton pillowcases we mostly use have fibers that can catch the loose strands of the virgin hair. It is like having someone pulling your hair out! Sleeping on silk allows your hair to slide as you move around during sleep instead of getting tugged. That means no tangles for you; hence beautiful hair for long!

Note: Of all types of hair extensions, we strongly suggest you use virgin Indian Remy hair as it will give you a natural look, the volume you need, and the length of your dreams without damaging your natural hair.
