Weave Advice For Your Wedding

November 28, 2022

Bride in beautiful wedding dress and shoulder length hairWearing weave for your wedding is pretty common.  In fact, many prefer weaves because they plan to immediately leave from their reception site to their honeymoon destination and realize they will not have time to have their hair done in the interim.  Weaves are very convenient but there are a few things to keep in mind when getting a sew in done for your wedding.

Have it installed the week before your wedding.  This is especially true if you are a newbie to weaves.  The amount of tension can cause a sleepless nights and headaches – neither of which you want the night before or on your big day!  Having the weave installed the week before allows time for the braids to loosen for comfortable wearing and you also have a chance to see if you want anything changed.  More or less leave out, more layers added, the length taken up.  Plus it is a huge time saver – having a weave installed and styled on the day before or day of your wedding is a recipe for stress because chances are you will be pressed for time.

Think texture.  While everyone is currently raving about straight virgin Indian hair, it may not be the best choice for your wedding day.  Do you want a lot of volume?  Natural curls and waves or curled with an iron?  Do you plan to leave some of your hair out or use a closure?  All of these things affect your choices.  If you prefer the natural look, virgin hair is probably best.  For curls and waves, steam processed hair is the way to go because they generally have a more consistent curl pattern from root to tip and throughout the wefts.  If you want to use a curling iron to style, then opt for a coarser texture as it hold curls much better – yaki is my suggestion.  If volume and big hair are your thing, virgin hair probably isn’t going to do it for you, it is a little too fine to achieve a lot of volume without wearing more than 8 ounces.

Be versatile.  Remember that you will be wearing this hair on your honeymoon and I for one would not want to spend hours doing my hair while vacationing.  Have as little hair out as possible to make blending easier.  If your hair is natural, a curly style may be best so that you don’t have to straighten your hair to match textures.  Relaxed?  Pick a straight or relaxed hair texture for wake and go hair.

Splurge!  If there is ever a time to invest in higher quality hair extensions, your wedding is it!  Get exactly what you want, go long, go big, go bold!  Sure you may have always given the side eye to women who spent a few hundred bucks on weave, but trust me the difference is evident and for your wedding, it is worth it.  Allow a professional whose work you are familiar with to complete your installation.  Upgrade to hand-tied wefts for the flattest most undetectable weave look!  In short, do not short yourself when it comes to your hair.  Enjoy your wonderful day!
