How to air dry and blend your extensions the right way!

June 17, 2010

Wearing virgin Remy hair extensions means a tad bit of compromising with your blow dryer, hair straightener, curling iron or any other heat tool. Truth be told, if you manage to stay away from them, your hair extensions will be eternally thankful and will give you their gorgeous healthy looks for long.

Admittedly, keeping your Remy hair dry without using a heat tool will sound contradicting at first. However, there is a right way to do this!

1. Blow-dry only the roots

One rule of thumb to keep your extensions from slipping is to never sleep with wet hair. Of course, this doesn’t mean you’ll have to wait hour after hour for the hair to dry or blow-dry all of the hair all night long. Just don’t keep the tape, beads or bonds wet for too long because moisture from the wet hair tends to get inside of the connection between the hair extensions and your natural hair that could even cause mold. In this case, you will notice that the tape or the bonds will go white, when they should stay clear. That’s a sign that you need to remove your Remy human hair immediately. To avoid all that, blow-dry only the roots and let the rest of the hair air dry.

With proper care, you can wear your extensions and turn heads for quite some time!

2. Explore your Options with Heat Tools

If you absolutely must apply heat, then try using blow-drying the roots using the hot setting and then turn it to cool to dry the ends of the hair. It may require more work on your side, but it’s surely worth it and gets the job done just right.

Too much heat and too often will make your extensions dry (here’s how to restore your dry hair extensions to their original lux and lush!)

Tips: Try not to channel too much heat in one spot for too long because the excess heat will cause your hair extensions to slip. Also, never use the top hot setting in your blow-dryer. Go for the moderate heat setting. Now, you can clearly see why we suggest you wash your hair only a couple of times a week! It allows your virgin Indian hair extensions to stay in pristine condition longer and saves you drying time!

When it comes to blending, the most important part of a hair extension installation, things could get particularly challenging. Again, we are here to share some top stylists’ tips to help you enjoy your natural-looking Remy hair extensions for many months to come!

1. The moment you take the extensions out of the package, first wash and blow-dry them and then install. This will allow the extensions that are made flat when packaged to bounce back to their natural texture and match better with your natural hair. That aside, since the extensions are not super flat anymore, you can have a better placement.

2. Keep the ends where the tape and bonds are away from the water (cover the bond or tape with a plastic wrap and tie with an elastic hair tie to secure in place), when washing your virgin Remy hair extensions.

3. Only wear your new extensions once they are completely dried.

4. Wash the hair with the newly installed Indian virgin hair extensions 48 hours after the installation. Since you will have already washed the extensions when right out of the package, the waiting will be easier. Your hair will look, feel, and smell fresh and clean, anyway!
