Importance of Hair Texture

January 31, 2014

Hair texture and density are THE most important things to consider when choosing your best hairstyle, alongside the shape of your face. These will dictate not only the hair length but also your hairstyle, which is critical, especially if you want to wear hair extensions to add length, volume or both! Yes, there are rules that apply to the perfect haircut but you know what? We’ve seen some of the BEST, most gorgeous hairstyles on rule breakers! Without further ado, we give you the best tricks in the book!

Types of Hair Textures

There are 6 basic hair texture types (straight, fine, wavy, curly, frizzy or coarse hair), although many of us have a combination of them. So, you may have, for example, fine, straight hair or wavy hair tends to frizz.

An experienced stylist will check the hair and tell its condition by the way it moves. However, it’s always a good thing to be able to know what your hair’s texture is. To figure it out, grab a section of it on the back, sides, and top and see how it falls when you let go. Does it pouf up and away from your face? Your hair is thick textured. At this point, it should be noted that naturally dark hair tends to be thicker than blonde hair. Now, if it falls limp and flat, it’s probably fine.

Tips for Curly Hair:

If you have curly hair, then you know that they look much better long. Short, curly hair means hair with too much (unflattering, in most cases) volume. So, better grow it as long as you can! Unless you are an independent, modern woman (and a bit hipster, too!) and love to wear short curly hair that pops! See Julia Garner, for instance. Her hairstyle is oh-so-flattering and soft!

Note: You can make your frizzy hair softer if you condition it after every shampoo. Also, weekly hot oil treatments help. Or you can use a dry shampoo and then condition the hair!

Tips for Fine Hair:

Since the game is all about body and how to either retain it or weight it down, the rule dictates fine hair to be shorter. Growing it too long can make it look lifeless and dull. This is particularly true for women with long faces, although shoulder-length locks will also look great on them, too!

BUT…

Round and square faces look amazing with longer hair.

Note: you can create more body in fine and straight hair (wavy, too) is you use sea salt or a volumizing spray. Of course, a proper blow dry is indeed required, and the same applies to the right haircut (go for layers!)!

Tips for Bangs

Admittedly, bangs look stunning on fine, straight and coarse hair. Women with frizzy and curly hair is best to opt out unless they are willing to use chemical procedures to manipulate their bangs and hair and straighten them every single day. What you CAN do, though, is go for side-swept, long bangs. Make sure the stylist cuts your hair when it’s dry, and the shortest layer hits your ear.

Layers…Layers…Layers…

No matter the hair texture, layers will work perfectly on all hair textures. They build in movement, create volume and soften the hair’s lines.

The Right Hair Tools

A paddle brush for blowouts, an ionic blowdryer, and a round boar’s hair brush are perfect for women with wavy, straight, and coarse hair that want to keep it fry- and frizz-free.

For curly hair, you can either let it air dry or dry it from below using a diffuser and on a low setting. Be careful, though, as over-handling it may make it frizz.

Love What You’ve Got!

Many women look in the mirror and just hate their hair. Instead of filling your air with negative energy, why not call out what you like about your hair? Do you love its shine, length or perhaps, thickness? Focus on that! Doesn’t your hair look prettier now! And, if you want to add volume or length, you can always use Remy hair extensions and create awesome hairstyles that complement your best features! Celebs prefer virgin Indian Remy hair extensions for various reasons. What about you?
