How to Keep Bright Colored Remy Hair Extensions from Fading

September 7, 2013

Colored hair is a trend that is becoming more and more inspirational! From galactic purples, baby blues, and candy pinks, to grass greens and rose reds, the palette in women’s hair is becoming more wonderful by the day! But, although changing hair color to create a new look is easy, it also needs to be done with proper care so that the hair stays healthy-looking and doesn’t frizz or become brittle or when you want to keep the bright colors from fading. Worry not! You are about to know of 10 golden secrets that will help you achieve your goal!

Tip #1: Wash your hair and wait for a couple of days before you color it.

Freshly washed hair has open cuticles. This will not only cause itchiness and mild pain to the scalp when you color the hair but also prevent the color from lasting. Although it may be difficult to wait 2-3 days after washing, it’s definitely worth it (and rewarding!) in the long run.

Tip #2: Always rinse with cold water

If you use hot water to rinse the hair after coloring it, you will fade the dye and also make the hair dull and dry. For that reason, leave the hot water for your body!

And, when you want to comb the hair when wet, use a wide-tooth comb to protect your luscious strands from breakage!

Tip #3: Don’t wash the hair too often

The more you wash the hair, the more dye comes out. So, try to wash it every 3 days or so. Now, if you have oily hair that needs regular (even daily) wash, you can use a dry shampoo that will allow you to keep your hair looking good for 3-4 days and preserve the color.

Tip #4: Choose your cleaning products wisely

It is paramount to choose the right products to wash your colored hair and provide the best possible care. Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioners are perfect options, especially if they also give extra moisture and nutrients.

Tip #5: Limit the use of heat styling tools & exposure to the sun

Flat irons, blow dryers, curling irons among other heat styling tools cause damage to your hair. Avoiding them as much as possible is safe-saving for your extensions. However, it is also next to impossible not to use them at all! So, always spray a heat protectant product to minimize the damage.

We all know that hair color fades after too much sun exposure (also sea salt and swimming pool chlorine products). To protect your color from them all, use hair products with UV protection and always wear a hat when under the hot summer sun! Also, applying conditioner before jumping in the swimming pool will prevent chlorinated water to penetrate the hair. After swimming, make sure you rinse the hair!

Tip #6: Adopt a healthy diet

What you eat reflects on your skin, hair, and nails. So, give your body the right nutrients it needs to maintain its functions and allow you to glow inside out! Lots of water and vitamins through vegetables, fruits, and a balanced diet will help turn heads with that beautiful mane of yours for sure!

Tip #7: Avoid coloring your hair too often

Hair dye is something entirely different than getting the color you want for your hair as it involves LOTS of aftercare so that the selected color can last and not cause any chemical damage to your hair. To keep your hair healthy, we strongly advise wearing Indian virgin hair extensions that you can dye without worrying about anything! Without a doubt, if you take good care of your extensions, you can have a really long-lasting color, whose longevity surpasses that of your natural hair (6+ months)! So, use masks, silicone treatments, and sulfate-free products on the extensions to refrain the cuticles from tangling.
