The bob haircut is said to have been invented in 1909 by a French hairdresser but it became popular in the 1920’s. Since then the bob has remained on the radar as a modern classy style that most of us women have tried at one point in time.

It is now considered a traditional or classic haircut with new variations coming out every few years. There are lots of different types of bobs, the chinese bob, the pageboy, the razor cut bob, the layered bob, the blunt bob the list goes on.

This is how to get a sleek shoulder length bob using hair extensions:

Hair Needed: 2 packs of 12 inch virgin Indian hair and a closure piece for the top. This length should be enough to create a uniform bob for most people

  1. Starting with freshly washed and deep conditioned hair, braid it all up either going straight back or in a circular pattern. If your hair is natural blow it out first to reduce it’s volume and create small braids to get as flat a base as possible.
  2. Sew in the extensions starting at the nape from side to side. Sew them in in a continuous weft without cutting. Once you get close to the middle of your head, start sewing the hair in a circle around your head. This is to create the bang at the front. The hair will be falling directly over your face as you sew it in so use some duck bill clips to hold the hair away from your face.
  3. Continue sewing the hair in a circle until you have a round spot at the top of your head that matches the size of the closure.
  4. Tie the hair of the closure into a ponytail and carefully cut any excess lace off.
  5. Sew in the piece at the top of your head to cover the hole and after you have completed this, brush the closure and the extension hair together in the direction that you want the hair to fall.
  6. Starting with your bang, use a razor comb to cut the hair carefully checking to make sure that you don’t take too much off. You want a pretty heavy bang so dont thin down the bang too much.
  7. Using some hair shears slide cut the hair from one side of the bang all the way down the length of the hair.  Repeat on the other side.
  8. Cut the hair in sections to avoid getting scissor happy! Grabbing one section of hair at a time, cut the extensions evenly to shoulder length keeping your cut pretty blunt.
  9. Once you have all the hair at the length you want, use the razor comb to take some of the volume off the ends without turning the cut choppy. You want the hair to create a curved profile at the bottom. This is important because it ensures that the style will still look good even when it’s not curled.
  10. Once you have completed the cut, use a curler or flat iron to bump under all the ends and you are done!
