Miley Cyrus: Effortless Fun Side Ponytail

January 21, 2016

Miley Cyrus Effortless Fun Side Ponytail Miley Cyrus has more or less grown up on our screens. Every teenage girl wanted to be Hanna Montana and even after the end of that show, Miley Cyrus has continued in the limelight taking suitable roles.

This side ponytail hairstyle she is wearing is young, carefree and fun. It probably wouldn’t go down too well in a corporate business meeting but it would be right at home in school, a casual meal at the weekend and can even be dressed up for an evening out.

If your hair is all one length, this hairstyle will give you a more refined and sleek style that will be quite dressy but with layered hair, you get a more carefree, casual look.

You are best off working with longer lengths for this style to allow the ponytail to sit squarely over one shoulder. 18 inches and over would be best. Here’s how to achieve the style:

Hair needed:  1 pack of 18 inch and 1 pack of 20 inch hair extensions in the color of your choice.

  • Braid your hair going backwards to create the flattest braiding pattern. Leave out a horseshoe section of hair at the top and sides for blending and covering the tracks.
  • Install the hair starting at the back with the 20 inch extensions and finishing off with the 18 inch ones towards the crown.
  • For an authentic look layer the hair so that the shortest layer is a maximum of two inches longer than your leave out hair. This gives you the best blending and a seamless natural looking weave. Layering also helps by giving volume to straight hair. Please see this article for more on layering hair extensions.
  • Apply some heat protectant over your leave out hair and flat iron it smooth to match the extensions. Brush everything together to blend.
  • Brush all your hair to one side and begin loosely braiding it. Once you are a couple of inches from the ends, secure the braid with a small ponytail holder or rubber band.
  • Starting at the top of the braid, pull apart the curls of the braid to exaggerate the width. Try and do this evenly so through the length so that you are left with a thick looking ponytail.
  • Pull some hair out at the front and sides to frame your face. If your hair is super straight then using a large barrel curling iron or a curved flat iron, create some flips and waves around your face. Don’t use any hairspray or mousse because you want any curls you create to fall to waves.

This style is very easy to put together, you can leave it as it is for lazy days at the beach or lunch with your friends or you can dress it up for an evening date by intertwining the braid with some colored ribbon or adding a few sparkly accessories down the length of the braid.

It keeps reasonably well overnight, just cover your hair with a satin bonnet and brush any stray hairs into place the following morning.
