Jennifer Garner: Girl Next Door Bangs And Wavy Layers

Jennifer Garner: Girl Next Door Bangs And Wavy LayersI love Jennifer Garner and I was a huge fan of Alias while it was on TV. She is a brilliant actress and with the exception of Elektra, I don’t think she’s put a foot wrong with her career so far.

Jennifer’s hair is naturally straight so that tends to be her signature style, sometimes with bangs. Actually it would seem that all the different wigs she wore for her role on Alias seems to have cured her from the urge to change her own hair color too drastically! I have seen a few shots of her with red tinted tresses but usually she’s happy with her shiny brunette color.

In this look, she comes across as very fresh faced with a girl-next-door quality. Her voluminous swoop bang and full wavy layers add to the appeal of the style. Here’s how to re-create her look with sew in hair extensions:

Hair needed: 1 pack 16 inch and 1 pack of 14 inch straight virgin Indian hair and a closure piece. You can also get the hair pre-colored you if you wish to go for Jennifer’s medium brown color.

  1. Start with freshly washed and deep conditioned hair. For this style you will not be leaving any of your own hair out so braid all your hair in a flat pattern. You can either braid it going straight back or around the head. Apply a hair net to help with the track placement and reduce stress on your own hair.
  2. Start sewing in the 16 inch extensions starting from the back working your way up. Apply the tracks evenly spaced out for uniform volume and thickness.
  3. Once you get to the crown area the 16 inch extensions should have run out so start sewing in the 14 inch. Instead of applying the tracks from side to side, apply them in a circular pattern. The hair will fall over your face but you can use some duck billed clips to pin the hair to the sides while you work.
  4. Continue sewing in a circle until you are left with a section at the top that is equal to the size of the closure piece.
  5. Tie the closure hair in a ponytail and out of the way. Carefully trim any excess lace from the closure piece and apply it to the space at the top of your head. Sew it down around the hole to finish the weave.
  6. Brush all the hair down  in the direction that it will eventually fall. Separate the section of hair at the front that will become your bang and tie the rest of the hair away.
  7. Using some sharp hair shears or a razor comb, slide cut the bang. Unless you know what you are doing with the shears I suggest that you use the razor comb for this to avoid getting a a blunt cut heavy bang. Release the rest of the hair and brush everything together to check for evenness and correct any errors.
  8. The rest of your hair should be already well layered because of the two different length extensions used but if you want to cut some more use this technique here.
  9. To style the extensions, bump under the bang to create the swoop. Using a large barrel curling iron curl the extensions to create volume and body. The curls will fall to soft waves and if you use some hairspray, they should keep all day.

This style keeps pretty easily, you can tie your hair into a low loose ponytail and wrap the ponytail into a bun to sleep overnight. You will have wonderful waves the following morning!
