Halle Berry: Pixie Cut Vs Shoulder Length Hair

December 26, 2011

Halle Berry pixie cut vs shoulder length hairHalle Berry is an icon of our time winning Emmys and Golden Globes and perhaps most importantly, being the first African American woman to win the Oscar for best actress. And who can forget that awesome and emotional Oscar speech when she won back in 2008? In these parts however, we are mostly interested in hair!

Her trademark pixie hairdo is instantly recognizable and uniquely hers. The pixie seems to be her go-to hairstyle but in between we have seen her experiment with longer lengths and even more recently with a curly weave. With her oval face shape and high cheekbones, she is clearly able to pull off a variety of styles and still look great but why does she keep going back to the pixie?

I’ve heard women say that the shorter your hair is the more confidence you have. This makes sense because you don’t have any hair to hide behind so you have to face the world head on, so to speak. I can attest to the truth in that, although my own pixie was the more out of necessity than choice (color and relaxer misuse)!

Pixies are super easy to care for by yourself. Of course you would have to go to a stylist for the initial cut and every month or so to have it trimmed but everything else can easily be done at home. If you are relaxed, all you need is to wet wrap your hair after a wash. You can then curl pieces with a barrel curler or spike it with some pomade to style. An asset if you have a busy home and work life.

Unlike other celebrities who love extensions and lace wigs and who probably have an army of stylists following them around, Halle’s style probably takes minutes to look polished and perfect.

Longer hair on the other hand is more tedious to look after, especially if you are accustomed to looking after short hair. You can certainly do daily maintenance on long hair yourself between weekly stylist visits for a wash and set. Otherwise if you love doing your own hair, roller-setting relaxed or natural 3c and loser textures is easy and very satisfying. Not to mention that it will save you hundreds of dollars per year on salon prices!

Even thought the pixie is young looking and fun, I feel that it ages her more than longer layers. It’s odd considering that most people would agree that either very short cuts or very long hair make you look youthful, it’s not the case with Halle.

You can certainly see that from the perspective of easy of styling, why Halle Berry always returns to her beloved pixie after her hair experiments. I would like to see her give longer hair a real go for a while. It certainly suits her and frames her face beautifully giving her an altogether softer appearance. Yet I feel that she will probably continue as she is, long extensions every now and again but straight back to her pixie afterwards!

Even though Halle has been missing from our screens for quite some time she’s obviously one of those actresses who will re-invent herself and come back bigger and better.
