Ciara’s Style – Long Full Layers And Voluminous Curls

October 24, 2014

Ciara with long black extensions and big barrel curlsCiara always looks fabulous whether she is wearing cornrows or waist length extensions. She’s very blunt about her love of extensions naming them one of the things that she cannot live without!

Lets face it though, along with the pressure from the music industry to look a certain way and long straight hair is the standard these days, it would not be very wise of her to wear her own hair out all the time while working. Protecting your hair from heated tools when you are styling it once a week is no big deal but when you need to style it every night of a tour like Ciara, heat damage becomes a real worry.

I love this style on Ciara, she doen’t usually take many risks with her hair. She favors black or dark brown tresses, occasionally with highlights and I find that she tends to go for curls or waves. Straight hair can be a bit severe sometimes while curls are flirty and fun.

Here is how to achieve this look:

Hair needed: 2 packs of 18-24 inches Virgin Straight Indian hair

1. Start off with long straight virgin Indian hair extensions. Depending your height this will be 18 inches if you are very short or up to 24 inches for average to tall ladies. Remember since the hair is going to be curled it will lose some of it’s length.

2. Install the extensions using your preferred method, I sew them in to a cornrow base. Finish off by flat ironing your leave out hair at the top and sides to blend with the extension hair. Alternatively install a frontal or closure so that all your own hair is protected underneath the weave.

3. Heat up a 1 1/2 inch barrel curling iron

4. Squirt a small amount of heat protection serum on your palm, rub your hands and smooth through the length of the hair concentrating on the ends. Don’t use too much to avoid weighing the hair down.

5. Grab a 1 inch section of hair starting from the back and detangle the section.

6. Curl that section of hair stopping 2-3 inches from the roots as this style does not require volume at the roots.

7. Hold the curling iron in place for about a few seconds to allow the heat to set the curl then carefully unwind it.

8. You can also hold each curl in place to your scalp with a bobby pin until you have completed your whole head. This gives you a more defined barrel curl than letting it drop straight after curling.

9. Complete the rest of your hair in this fashion making sure to change the direction of the curls periodically for a more natural finish.  Release all the curls from the bobby pins, you will find that weight of the hair will turn the curls into gorgeous curls and waves.

10. Style your hair by separating the curls slightly with your fingers. Don’t use a comb or brush! Spray your extensions lightly with hairspray to hold the curls in place.

A good hairspray should hold your curls all day without leaving your hair hard or crunchy. It is natural however for the curls to fall a bit as the day goes on. For second day hair, tie your hair in a low ponytail overnight and in the morning brush out the curls for a voluminous wavy hairstyle!
