Celeb Style: LaLa Vasquez-Anthony Elegant Side Bun Updo

November 25, 2012

LaLa Vasquez-Anthony Elegant Side Bun Updo Don’t be fooled, even though Lala is of Puerto Rican descent, she wears hair extensions sometimes. It’s no big secret that when you work as an entertainer in front of the cameras, heat styling is a daily ordeal your hair has to go through. Some of our favorite celebs opt to have the heat applied on their extensions instead to save their own tresses. A very smart option.

Mrs Lala Vasquez-Anthony wears the most fabulous dresses and her hairstyles are always polished and on point regardless of the event. Wheather she’s weaved up or wearing one of her gorgeous updo’s, her style is definitely worth a closer look at!

In this picture she is all charm and elegance with a fabulous side bun. Her black locks are intertwined with hints of deep brown tones clearly visible in her faux bang. This style is great for formal events and can even be accessorized to turn it into a wedding hairstyle. Here’s how to get this style.

Hair needed: 1 pack 16 inch and 1 pack 18 inch Virgin Indian straight extensions. Choose hand tied wefts.

1. Start by highlighting the 16inch extensions with a few streaks of light auburn box hair color. You can use the instructions here to color the hair or if you are not comfortable doing this yourself get a stylist to do it for you before installing the extensions.

2. You will want to use an ultra flat braiding pattern. Preferably all the hair going straight back because the hair is going to be worn in a updo. You will need to leave out a horseshoe section of hair to create a side part. You will also need to leave out at least 1/2 inch of hair all around the perimeter of your head. This makes for flawless high ponytails and buns.

3. Sew in the 18 inch extensions starting from the nape. Don’t be too generous with applying the extensions to prevent any lumpiness. You re better off using hand tied wefts for this style or any other extension style that involves updos. Use the16 inch pre-highlighted extensions at the top making sure that you get some streaks near your bang for a nice peekaboo effect.

4. Once you have completed sewing in the weave, apply some heat protectant on your leave out hair and flat iron straight to match the extensions.

5.  Heat up a large barrel curling iron and using some firm hold styling spritz to create some curls around the bang area. This will make it easier for you to create a faux bang without having to cut the extensions.

6. Brush out the curls into waves and using a few bobby pins, create a faux bang pinning the excess hair behind your ear.

7. Brush the rest of the hair into a side ponytail and secure with a hair elastic.

8. Use the barrel curling iron to create more curls in the ponytail. The curls will allow the bun to sit more elegantly without any unsightly spiky straight ends!

9. Using a very light twisting action, twist the ponytail into a bun. You don’t want to lose the curls as you do this so make it pretty slack. Use bobby pins to secure the bun as you create it.

10. Apply some gel on you edges and use a boar bristle brush to smooth any stray hairs. Spray with some oil sheen and you are ready to dazzle!
